What is an expression of interest?
An expression of interest is an introductory description of a project that may be the precursor to an actual application.
How long does it take to get a reply after I submit an expression of interest?
Up to two months.
How long does it take to make a decision on an application?
It typically takes between six and nine months from the date we receive an application until we issue a decision. All applicants receive an answer to their grant applications, sent by e-mail. We do not provide arguments as to why an application has been rejected. Read more about the application process.
When does VILLUM FONDEN’s board of directors meet?
VILLUM FONDEN’s board of directors meets five times a year. Between meetings, the working groups, which are made up of area experts and secretariat employees, meet to process applications.
When does VELUX FONDEN’s board of directors meet?
VELUX FONDEN’s board of directors meets six times a year. Between meetings, the working groups, which are made up of area experts and secretariat employees, meet to process applications.
Can I apply for a grant even if I have applied before?
Yes, provided the project falls within the area the foundations make grants to, and provided you are seeking funding for a new project.
Can I apply even if I have previously been awarded a grant?
Yes.
Do the foundations limit their grants to their stated areas? What if I come up with an idea that doesn’t fall into one of the categories?
We are always willing to listen to and entertain new ideas.
Can I apply for a funding for a project that deals with multiple grant areas?
Yes. The foundations make grants to multi-disciplinary projects, for example large-scale projects that include both research and empirical evidence, or projects that involve multiple areas of research.
What areas do you support?
The foundations makes grants to a wide range of areas. Read more under the menu option ‘Grant area’ .
What is a philanthropic foundation?
A philanthropic foundation may not give financial support to projects that seek to further political, financial or commercial interests.
How much of a project’s funding may go to overheads or administration?
VILLUM FONDEN accepts an amount of max. 15% of the total project budget for unspecified overheads.
VELUX FONDEN accepts specified additional expenses for the institution/organisation. However, the amount may not exceed 20% of the proposed total funding. Furthermore, the foundation accepts unspecified expenses of max. 5% of the proposed total funding.
